After the endless snow and bitter cold of February, we were frustrated when March came in like a lion as well.
Air temperature of MINUS THIRTY on March 5, 2019. |
But we were thrilled when the sun finally came out and started warming things up!
Doug, showing off the massive piles of snow |
So much snow that you can't even see we have raised beds! |
Yay, sunshine! |
We even bought a ginormous sheet of heavy black plastic in order to help the snow melt faster. |
But by the end of March, things were definitely looking up. The snow was melting in earnest, we hit 60 degrees (!!!!) one day, and we started to think that spring may actually come some day.
Prepping the cold frames for planting
(and enough snow melted that you can start to see the raised bed frames!) |
Showing off the leaf mulch.
You can see how much heat the mulch gives off,
based on the snow melt right around the leaf pile. |
In addition, we also started to put the new greenhouse to work!
We are planning to have our guest house available for rent by the end of the month, so watch here for the announcement and for links to the vrbo/airbnb sites! :)
