August 2021 recap

August continued July's HOT and DRY trend, until about midway through the month when we suddenly got a reprieve with highs in the 70s for a few days, and even some showers (without lightning!). What a blessing, as it helped the firefighters get the Harris Mountain fire (only about 5 miles away, as I mentioned in our July update) almost completely under control. YAY!

Some of the other highlights for the month included:

More chicks!

Attending an outdoor "goat yoga" experience in Cascade

Mike's arrow went right through another arrow during his archery practice!!

The sprinkles brought some rainbows!

and honey!!!

Hope you all had a great month!

July 2021 recap

It's August already!!

July started very relaxing. We had some visitors, went swimming, read some books, and even went to Girl Scout camp!

Then we watched as a big fire burned near Craig. (Thankfully the firefighters were able to put it out within a few days!)

Then lightning nearly struck Mike while he was picking tomatoes and basil in the garden! (This is us inspecting the tree later that night, to ensure it wasn't smoldering.)

And now we've been closely monitoring the Harris Mountain fire, which was indeed started by a dry lightning strike.

After about a week it's now over 27,000 acres and still barely contained. And now it's really encroaching on the Eastern edge of our neighborhood. The photo below shows the fire in red with the containment lines in black.  The ginormous yellow arrow points roughly to our house and our cabin.

So if you have any prayers to spare, please send them our way - and in the direction of all the amazing firefighters out here in our neighborhood and in the West!

Hope you all have a safe and fun August!
