November 2018
November was a month for transitioning from the outdoor garden to the indoor projects of winter. We had several snow falls and one brutal cold snap (below zero!) that put an abrupt end to the growing season. So instead of being outside, we focused on preparing for next spring by building a greenhouse! We had this south-facing balcony, which you can see in this photo from last winter, but it was not well cared for and it was beginning to rot:
Then we added a railing and started building the walls and roof.
The final step was finishing the walls and wrapping the whole thing in thick greenhouse-grade plastic, until we can afford to install windows all the way around.
It was pretty slow going in November because the work all depended on the weather. So on snowy, cold days we also spent time plotting the gardens for next year.

We moved the satellite dish, took down the old balcony, repaired the rotting beams, and extended the balcony two extra feet.

We're looking forward to ordering some seeds soon!
